Where each protocol runs

Browsers can’t open raw sockets, so a few protocols run through Voyager’s relay on the web when you’re signed in. The desktop app isn’t publicly available yet.

Protocol questions

Is Voyager a WebSocket client?

Yes. Connect to ws:// or wss:// endpoints with optional subprotocols and headers, send messages, and watch every incoming and outgoing message in a live log. WebSocket works in the web app and the VS Code extension.

Can I test an MQTT broker from the browser?

Yes, as long as the broker accepts MQTT over WebSockets (ws:// or wss://) — browsers can’t open raw TCP sockets. The VS Code extension can also connect over mqtt:// and mqtts://. You can subscribe with wildcards, publish, and choose QoS 0, 1 or 2.

Does Voyager support gRPC server reflection?

Yes. In the VS Code extension you can point Voyager at a .proto file or let it discover services through server reflection, then send a JSON request message that Voyager encodes to protobuf for you. Unary and streaming responses are supported.

Can I run SQL against PostgreSQL?

Yes, in the VS Code extension. Write a query with positional parameters ($1, $2 …), resolve them from your environment variables, connect over SSL if needed, and read the result rows, fields and command tag.

Why do some protocols need sign-in on the web?

FTP, SFTP, SMTP, TCP and UDP need raw network sockets, which browsers don’t allow. When you’re signed in, the web app reaches them through Voyager’s relay server instead. In the VS Code extension they connect directly. On the web, FTP and SFTP are limited to listing and deleting files.

Is support for all 14 protocols free?

Yes. Every protocol is available to every user at no cost — there is no paid tier.
